At its meeting on Wednesday 14 October, the Development Committee of Belfast City Council re-iterated its decision not to bid for the title of UK City of Culture in 2013.
The Committee made the decision on the basis that it was felt that a credible bid could not be developed by the 11 December deadline set by central government.
The Committee also felt that, in the current economic climate, it would not be appropriate at this time, to commit the council to the expenditure involved in a bid.
The Committee agreed that the council should consider bidding for the title when it is next awarded in 2017.
The Committee`s decisions will be presented to the next full meeting of Belfast City Council on Monday 2 November, for ratification.
