Gift yourself good health for Christmas

23 October 2009

Leisure centres users are being encouraged to stretch themselves a little more when it comes to exercise and get better health in time for Christmas.

They will also get a sports goodie bag if they do at least four fitness classes and four gym sessions during the month of November.

Health and Fitness Officer, Andrew Stevenson, said: “With the added pressures of the festive season, shopping and parties people often put exercise at the bottom of their list.

“However, it is even more important at this time of year as it is great stress buster. We are encouraging users to be a bit more adventurous in their exercise too.

“Often people who go to the gym don`t do classes and vice versa, by making the challenge a mixture of both exercises we are hoping that users will find new interests and new ways of exercising.

“We have over 200 activity classes every week across our leisure centres from aerobics to Pilates. The challenge is geared to make it easy for cross over to occur, each visit is worth one stamp towards the `goodie` bag.

“The gym induction for newcomers will also be worth a stamp and a coach will draw up a four week programme so users can chart their progress. If people keep with a new activity for four weeks they usually will continue it and that has to be good for their health,” said Andrew.
