Botanic trail marks National Tree Week
2 December 2011
Visitors to Botanic Gardens have a new treat in store with the opening of a tree trail as part of National Tree Week.
The Friends of Belfast Botanic Gardens Tree Trail, supported by Belfast City Council, promotes 20 rare and colourful trees from all corners of the world.
These range from the majestic dawn Redwood from China to the Irish yew found in Fermanagh in the 1780s. Many were planted in the 19th Century when the gardens opened.
The gardens` scenic landscape has proven popular with residents, students and tourists alike.
To follow the tree trail, pick up a leaflet within the park and start the trail at the Malone Road gate by the statue of Lord Kelvin.
