Cameras ready for action
12 December 2011
Amateur photographers are advised to get ready for action as Belfast City Council launches the 2012 Belfast Parks Photographic Competition.
A share of £1,000 is on offer for the best in three categories – People in parks; Wildlife in our parks; and, Buildings and art - and the best shot by an under 16 year old.
New sponsors Clarke Cunningham Tree Maintenance Ltd have come on board and Councillor Steven Corr, Chairman of the Parks and Leisure Committee said: “This is a popular competition and the standard keeps getting higher each year.
“The categories this year reflect the vital role that parks play in the health and wellbeing of people who live, work and visit Belfast. They are also a rich source of landscape and built heritage as well as providing a diverse range of habitats for wildlife.
“Parks and open spaces are sometimes unappreciated, we use them without thinking or noticing the beauty and opportunities they offer. The Parks Photographic Competition gives us a chance to pause and look at them anew,” added the councillor.
Also new this year is that entries may be submitted electronically. Details of this and a list of all our parks are available at www.belfastcity.gov.uk/parklife
