`Titanic`-themed artwork unveiled on Shankill
25 June 2012
A new artwork has been unveiled on the Shankill Road, highlighting the connections between the locality and the RMS Titanic.
Over recent months, Belfast City Council has been working with Shankill Alternatives and the Shankill Area Social History group, and local artist Daniela Balmeverde, to create a high impact art piece on a vacant site between Bellevue Street and Mountjoy Street.
The project was also supported by the Department for Social Development and Impact Training.
The artwork was officially `unveiled` by Elizabeth Adair, the grand-daughter of leading fitter Robert Knight, one of the `Guarantee Group` – the select group of Harland and Wolff workers who travelled on Titanic on her fateful maiden voyage and subsequently lost their lives.
