29 June 2012
Belfast City Council has won a top employment award in recognition of its disability best practice.
The council scooped the prestigious gong at the Irish News Workplace and Employment Awards and it was collected on behalf of the council by Councillor Maire Hendron, chair of the Good Relations Steering Group and diversity champion, and Jill Minne, the council`s head of Human Resources.
Councillor Hendron said: “This award is testament to the hard work of our staff in the area of disability and equality. It`s very important that as one of the biggest employers in Northern Ireland, Belfast City Council shows leadership in this area and I`m delighted that the council has been singled out as an example of best practice.”
Titanic Belfast hosted the awards and companies from pizzas to packaging, and architecture to insurance were all represented.
The awards were supported by six business partners; Tughans, Liberty IT, Tesco, PwC, Kingsbridge Private Hospital and Investors in People, and were endorsed by key industry bodies, the Recruitment and Employment Confederation and the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.
