Experience the `taste` of Belfast `City Centre`

18 May 2007

Visitors to Belfast can take home a taste of the city with the launch of `City Centres`, a luxurious selection of milk and dark chocolates celebrating famous local landmarks.

This unique product was developed by a new local company, City Centres Ltd. It is aimed specifically for the tourist market and will be initially sold in Belfast Welcome Centre, the Tourist Information Centre for Belfast and Northern Ireland, and will soon be sold at airports and souvenir outlets.

With visitors and conference delegates continually looking to bring back something different from Belfast these chocolates will be the ideal momento.

First to receive a box of the hand made chocolates was the Lord Mayor Pat McCarthy.

“More and more people are enjoying a taste of Belfast, as we establish our city as one of the most vibrant, emerging tourism destinations anywhere in the world. Now, these increasing numbers of visitors can take a unique little taste of Belfast back home with them,” commented Councillor McCarthy.

The idea for City Centres was developed by brothers Pat and John Dyer over the past 18 months and they are both taking great pleasure in launching their inventive product in their home city.

Pat Dyer said:

“We are thrilled that our product will be hitting the shelves in our home city. Being Belfast born there was never any doubt that this would be the first city to sell `city centres`. We don`t plan to stop in Belfast though, an expansion into Dublin, Liverpool and Manchester are next on the agenda.”

Each box of Belfast `City Centres` contains images, descriptions and a guide to sixteen famous sites across the city, which include; City Hall, Albert Clock, St Anne`s Cathedral, The Falls and Shankill Road, plus many more.

Belfast Visitor and Convention Bureau Director of Visitor Servicing Mary-Jo McCanny said:

“We are delighted to be selling Belfast `City Centres` and to be working with Pat and John in their bid to promote their home city in such a distinctive way.

"It is great that we are going to be able to offer all our visitors the chance to literally `taste` what Belfast has to offer. The product is of a very high quality and with so many landmarks listed, it really is Belfast in a box!

The Belfast Welcome Centre is jointly funded by Belfast City Council and NITB and also through the EU Programme for Peace and Reconciliation. It is one of a network of 30 Tourist Information Offices throughout Northern Ireland.
