DIY, building sites and roadworks

Drill Our noise control officers can also help if you are bothered by noise from building sites and roadworks or DIY being carried out by your neighbours.

Call us on
028 9037 3006 and we will investigate your complaint.

DIY

Most DIY work is carried out in the evenings or at weekends and is completed reasonably quickly.

However, if you feel your neighbour is carrying out excessive drilling or hammering or is working at unreasonable hours, call us for help and advice.

Building sites

We try to ensure that, where possible, noisy building work is restricted to the following hours: Builders who carry out noisy work outside of these hours may be liable for prosecution and a fine of up to £5,000.

If you are a builder or contractor, you can find out about our Considerate Constructors Scheme
or read our advice notes for construction and demolition sites.

Roadworks

Roadworks are often carried out at night to minimise disruption to traffic and pedestrians.

Permission to do this is allocated by the Roads Service and contractors are expected to make every effort to minimise the nuisance they may cause to local residents.

Information about planned and ongoing roadworks is available from www.trafficwatchni.com or by calling the Roads Service (Belfast Division) on 028 9025 3000.

From time to time, we may also impose restrictions on the times roadworks can be carried out.
