Commercial and industrial premises

If you live near to industrial and commercial premises, you may be bothered by noise caused by heavy machinery, air conditioning units or delivery vehicles.

If you feel the noise is excessive, call us on 028 9037 3006 and we will investigate your complaint.

Our noise control officers may visit you to assess the noise or ask you to keep a diary recording the dates and times of each disturbance.

This helps our officers to work out the best time to hear the noise, as well as gathering important evidence which may be needed if legal action is required.

If we experience the noise, and are satisfied that it is causing a nuisance, we can issue the business owner with a Noise Abatement Notice, under the Pollution Control and Local Government (Northern Ireland) Order 1978.

This gives the owner a time limit to reduce the noise but, if it continues, they could face prosecution.
