| Saturday 4, 11, 18 and 25 August | 9am – 11am: Kids’ splash session, 11.30am – 1.30pm: Canoe and kayak lessons (bookable in advance) 2pm – 4pm: Family session, 4.30pm – 6.30pm. Adults only session | Canoeing and kayaking | Mobile Team Adventure at Shaw's Bridge | Large groups are welcome, but need to provide advance notice. | Tuesday 21 August | The first but not the oldest | Ormeau Park | A short illustrated talk, followed by a walk around Ormeau Park to tell the story of Belfast's first public park. Please wear suitable footwear and rainproof clothing for the outside part of the event. Tarmac paths throughout. Duration about 2 hours. Meet at Ormeau bowling pavilion, beside Park Road entrance. | Wednesday 22 August | 6.45pm - 7.30pm | WEE series | Sir Thomas and Lady Dixon Park | This introductory orienteering event has a short course suitable for all the family and a longer course for those up for a challenge. Enjoy a walk or a run around the park using a map to find the markers. Electronic punching will allow you to see how long you took and have fun comparing it with others. | Wednesday 22 August | 9pm - 11pm | Going batty in Belvoir | Belvoir Park Forest | Join Lagan Valley Regional Park staff for a dusk walk through Belvoir Park Forest and along the riverside. Discover the wonderful world of the bat as they emerge for their nightly foray. Join us for a slide show introducing the bats, before setting out on the night walk. Meet at Belvoir Activity Centre. | Thursday 23 August | 7pm - 9pm | An evening at Yellow Jack's Cairn | Armstrong's Hill, Divis Mountain | A guided evening walk over Armstrong's Hill to 'Yellow Jack's Cairn' on the western side of Divis Mountain overlooking Lough Neagh. | Saturday 25 August | 12noon - 2pm | Paralympic flame sports day | Andersonstown Leisure Centre | Come to Andersonstown Leisure Centre to welcome the paralympic flema and try boccia, new age kurling, wheelchair racing, goalball and wheelchair basketball. |
| Sunday 26 August | 12noon - 6.30pm | Belfast Mela 2012 | Botanic Gardens | This popular multi-cultural festival celebrates identity through a unique programme of music, dance e, food, carnival arts and visual arts. Mela, meaning 'to meet' is an artistically-led celebration of culture and creativity, inspired by local, national and international talent.
