Belfast in Bloom

Belfast City Hall surrounded by flowers Our annual Belfast in Bloom campaign runs from May to September 2012. We're encouraging residents and businesses to use flowers creatively to brighten up their surroundings and create a blaze of colour across Belfast.

2012 is blossoming into an exciting year for Northern Ireland. With so many events, celebrations, commemorations and remarkable projects taking place across Belfast, this project will give the city an extra splash of colour and make it a more attractive city to shop, live, work and visit.

The competition is open to individuals, groups and commercial premises. We award prizes for the best entries in a range of categories, including best street, best allotment site and best front garden.

Get involved

Anyone can take part in the scheme, whether you're working as an individual or as part of a group, you can get involved in transforming neighbourhoods and Belfast - all you need is a garden, a window sill or a front door.

For lots of useful information about green gardening, including tips and advice for brightening up your outdoor areas read our Grow your own information or visit the Direct Gov website

So whether it's cheering up forgotten flowerbeds, arranging a simple window box, or taking part in a larger regeneration project, everyone can do their bit.

By taking part in our Belfast in Bloom campaign, you are also increasing the city's chances of being chosen for the national, Britain in Bloom competition.

Help your business bloom

As part of our horticultural service, we are offering commercial premises the opportunity to purchase hanging baskets, mangers and flower towers that will contain an array of colourful flowers to attract passers-by and enhance your business premises for visitors and residents.

Prices range from £105 for a hanging basket to £325 for a flower tower. This is a simple and cost effective way to brighten up the city and your business premises without even getting your fingers dirty as we will erect and maintain your selected floral arrangement throughout the season.
The deadline for ordering flowers is Friday 4 May 2012. For more information on purchasing a floral display for your business, call our Belfast in Bloom officer on 028 90 320202 (extension 3716).
