Belfast Parks Photographic Competition
Enter our Belfast Parks Photographic Competition for your chance to win a share of £1,000.
All you have to do is send us a photograph capturing a scene from one of our parks or open spaces in Belfast. There's lots of scope to show off your photographic skills. Examples could include:
- people enjoying themselves in our parks
- general scenes such as buildings, flowers and wildlife
- park events.
Who can enter
To enter this competition, photographs must:- have been taken after January 2009
- have been taken from an area of the park that is available to the public.
However, we cannot accept photographs which have won prizes in other competitions or previous entries to this competition.
You should submit your photograph in both:
- colour print
- digital format (CD or DVD).

Competition categories
Prizes will be awarded in the following categories:Best photograph by a club photographer
- first prize - £250
- second prize - £150
- third prize - £100.
- up to three colour prints between 8'' x 6'' and 10'' x 12'' and mounted on black card
- the same photographs in a digital format.
Best photograph by a member of the public
- first prize - £175
- second prize - £100
- third prize - £75.
- up to three colour prints, up to a maximum of 7'' x 5'' and unmounted
- the same photographs in a digital format.
Best under 16 photograph
- first prize - £75
- second prize - £50
- third prize - £25.
- up to three colour prints, up to a maximum of 7'' x 5'' and unmounted
- the same photographs in a digital format.
Terms and conditions
The following terms and conditions apply to this competition:- competitors can only enter one category
- entrants must be the sole author and owner of copyright for all photos entered
- Belfast City Council retains the right to free reproduction and exhibition of all entries. By sending a photo to us, you grant us permission to publish your photo, or any part of it, in any media we choose, including our website. No payment will be made for the use of your photo.
- entries must be accompanied by an official entry form
- before submitting your entry, you must get permission from anyone who is recognisable in the photo or get permission from guardians for photos of minors or those with learning disabilities
- entries must not be manipulated in any way - judges reserve the right to exclude any image that they believe has been excessively treated so as to alter its authenticity
- all entries are sent at the photographer's risk and Belfast City Council cannot accept liability for damage or loss (whether or not there is receipt of posting)
- no more than one prize will be awarded to any entrant in the same category
- a panel of judges will choose the winning photos. Their decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
- no employee of Belfast City Council, Bloomingdale Nurseries or the Morrow Group may enter this competition
- the closing date for this competition is 4pm on Friday 21 May 2010
- winning entrants will be invited to an awards ceremony in June or July 2010
- a selection of photos entered into the competition
will be displayed in Sir Thomas and Lady Dixon Park
during Rose Week (13 to 18 July 2010).

- name of entrant
- category
- name of club (best photograph by a club photographer category)
- age (best under 16 photograph category)
- name of the park where the photograph was taken.
