Forest of Belfast
The Forest of Belfast, which was set up in 1992, is a partnership between central government, local authorities, private sector bodies, voluntary organisations and individuals who are involved in tree planting and management in and around Belfast.
We have a number of aims and objectives.
These include:
- conserving and managing trees
- increasing the kind of trees we plant, especially in areas where the public have access
- raising awareness of trees and forestry
- involving the community in tree planting and management.
Forest of Belfast action plan
We want to raise awareness of trees and forestry by:- giving community groups more than 100,000 trees to plant throughout the greater Belfast area
- encouraging people to take care of recently planted trees and fine mature trees
- raising awareness of trees through the media, events, conferences and meetings
- encouraging the development of a ‘tree culture’
- researching the history of trees in Belfast
- commissioning sculptures for urban woods and parks.
