Watch This Space scheme

Image: A child takes part in the Watch This Space scheme We've teamed up with the Ulster Wildlife Trust to create Watch This Space, a pilot project which aims to encourage children and their families to enjoy their local parks and open spaces.

About the scheme

Staff from the Ulster Wildlife Trust are working with several primary and secondary schools which are located near parks in north, south-west and east Belfast, including Falls, Woodvale and Victoria Parks.

They supervise seasonal visits to the parks, help children learn about their local environment
and wildlife and show youngsters the valuable role that parks play in ensuring good quality
of life for everyone.

Saturday Clubs

We also run Saturday Clubs in Falls, Woodvale and Victoria Parks as part of our Watch This Space scheme.

They take place in the bowling pavilions in Falls and Woodvale Park on alternate Saturdays.

The clubs are suitable for children aged seven to 12 and parents are also welcome. Younger children can attend but must be accompanied by an adult.

Activities include mini-beast hunts, tree planting, seed collection, games and crafts and bird identification.

Each session costs 50p - call the Ulster Wildlife Trust on 028 4483 0282 to book a place.

Outreach work

We're keen to help older teenagers get involved in environmental activities and we will soon be contacting local youth clubs and community groups as part of the scheme.

We also organise public events as part of the Watch This Space scheme, often as part of other events.
