Public health and housing

Houses Our officers deal with complaints and enquiries about a range of public health and housing issues.

We do not deal with the allocation of social housing. This is the role of the Northern Ireland Housing Executive

Our responsibilities include:

Get winter-ready

Last winter caused problems for many of us. So this year, it's important that we are ready in case we face similar conditions.

Our winter section contains information and advice to help you prepare your home and your family for cold weather and freezing conditions.

We have also produced a Protect your Home booklet which contains useful information to help you prepare your home for the many emergency situations which can occur throughout the year.

Legal action

We can take legal action against landlords if the condition of their property creates an unhealthy environment for tenants. This covers privately-rented properties and those owned by the Northern Ireland Housing Executive or other housing associations.

There are some other specific situations when we may take legal action. They include:

Complaints or enquiries

If you have an urgent complaint or enquiry (for example, a burst pipe or an oil leak), we aim to respond within one working day.

We aim to respond to all other complaints and enquiries within three working days.
