Temporary closure

Palmerston Road Recycling Centre

Palmerston Road Recycling Centre is closed for essential maintenance from 14 April 2012 for approximately 18 weeks.

Residents who normally recycle at Palmerston Road can still use our other recycling centres:
There are also glass recycling points across the city and two civic amenity sites (Agnes Street and Springfield Avenue).

Please remember our Civic Amenity Sites only accept a limited range of material.

Dargan Road temporary recycling centre

Due to the closure of Alexandra Park Avenue and Palmerston Road recycling centres, we have opened a temporary recycling centre at Dargan Road.

We can't accept oil (cooking, engine oil or oil filters) at this site but you can recycle the rest of your waste here.
Remember if you have a bulky item (such as furniture or fridges) you can arrange a free household bulky waste collection by calling us on 028 9027 0230.

Recycling is only one way of minimising waste, but by reducing and reusing waste items we can do even more to prevent waste in the first place.

Re-use scheme at our recycling centres

We're now able to re-use more of the household waste that you bring to our recycling centres.

Funding from the Department of the Environment's Rethink Waste NI programme has allowed us to buy some extra collection equipment for our recycling centres and to arrange with a local charity to collect a wider range of good quality items to be re-used.

We've awarded this re-use contract to East Belfast Mission. They will sell the items in their shops or pass them on to other suitable charities.

You can donate your good quality materials including:
Large electrical goods and kitchen appliances were already being taken away fo refurbishment and resale by Bryson Electrical Recycling.

And good quality books, CDs and DVDs were already being taken by Oxfam.

We hope to be able to add to this list as time goes on.

All items donated for re-use must be given to the authorised charities. We can't let anyone else take them.

If you have any questions about the scheme please call us on 0800 032 8100.

Disabled access

All our recycling centres have a split-level design, making it easy for people to dispose of waste without having to use steps.

Alexandra Park, Blackstaff Way and Palmerston Road also have lower-level areas for recycling glass, cans, plastic bottles, Tetra Pak and textiles.
