Student recycling scheme
Recycling facilities are available for Queen's University students living in Queen's Elms, Guthrie House, College Gardens and Mount Charles halls of residence.
Students have also been given heavy duty bags to help carry items to the recycling facilities.
Facilities
Queen's Elms
Bottle banks and recycling bins are available for students living in Queen's Elms.You can recycle the following items in these facilities:
- bottle banks - glass bottles and jars, including wine and beer bottles and jam and sauce jars
- bins - paper (newspapers, magazine and office paper), plastic bottles (milk and other drinks bottles, detergent and shampoo bottles), cardboard and cans (aerosols, food and drink cans).
Guthrie House, College Gardens and Mount Charles
Collection points have been installed at each of these sites for the following materials:- glass bottles and jars
- paper - newspapers, magazines, catalogues, office paper, and brochures
- plastic bottles - including milk bottles, drinks bottles, detergent and shampoo bottles
- cardboard
- cans - including aerosols, food and drink cans.
Please note that envelopes, shredded paper, yoghurt pots, plastic bags and trays, Tetra Pack cartons and takeaway pizza boxes shouldn't be placed in the bins at any of the sites. However, many of these items can be taken to our recycling centres
Private rental accommodation
If you're a student living in a shared house or flat, you must use your blue bin or kerbside box to recycle your waste. You'll also have a black bin for all other household rubbish.Call our waste helpline on 0800 032 8100 if you aren't sure whether you live in a blue bin or kerbside box area.
