Waste Week
Waste Week highlights the problem of waste and encourages everyone to think about the amount of rubbish they produce.
This year's Waste Week took place from 1 to 5 June 2010 and included:
Car boot sale
This event encouraged people to sell their old or unwanted items, rather than throwing them away. Proceeds from the sale donated to a children’s hospital in Uganda.
Movies with Glass
Drawing on an old tradition of swapping glass jars for cinema tickets, this event encouraged movie lovers brought along a glass jar to the Movie House, Dublin Road, in exchange for free entry to watch Some Like It Hot.
Unique Boutique
This event focused on turning old and unwanted furniture into special, recycled items for the home. Featuring guest speakers, displays, a 'before and after' corner and a drop-in workshop, it took place in Victoria Square.
Waste Fair
Targeting primary school pupils, our special sessions covered a range of topics, such as composting and biodiversity, based upon the school curriculum.
