Extra litter wardens

Image: Cigarette litter We have employed extra litter wardens to cope with smoke-related litter.

Our three additional litter wardens will deal with the increase in on-street littering, particularly outside restaurants, pubs and clubs.

Under the Litter (Northern Ireland) Order 1994, it is a criminal offence to drop litter or dump rubbish.

This means we can fine or prosecute offenders.

If you drop litter or dump rubbish, you may face a £50 fixed penalty notice or a fine of up
to £2,500 for more serious offences.

In 2007, we issued more than 1,300 £50 fines for cigarette littering.
