Urban Design, Masterplans and Ecological Strategies - Lessons for Belfast
The first in the new series of Development Debates was delivered in November 2010 by Professor Niall Kirkwood from the Harvard Graduate School of Design. Just under 100 guests attended to hear about Professor Kirkwood’s experiences.Drawing from experiences from the private sector where he has carried out numerous land reclamation projects, and from his current work in urban research centres, Kirkwood offered some valuable suggestions for ‘Belfast’s creative vision’.
Using case studies from the cities of Toronto, New York and Seoul, Kirkwood identified a number of common themes from all three cities that have underpinned their successful transformation.
He also offered a series of suggestions for Belfast to consider around creative vision. Moving forward, he proposed that a number of questions should be addressed in order to start a debate.
