Education

Our Community Awareness Team has a range of anti-litter resources to help your school or community group reach its environmental goals. Our Northern Ireland curriculum linked sessions are fun, free and informative.

You can choose from the following education packages (we also tailor sessions to suit your class on request):

Nursery and Foundation Stage

We offer a range of short stories to help educate and entertain pupils about litter and the impact it has on the world around them. These include 'Sammy the Squirrel', 'The Duck Pond', 'Jack's Fun Day at the Park' and 'King Wastealot.' Many of our stories involve colourful storyboards and a puppet, allowing for plenty of interaction and fun.

We also have an interactive Anti-Litter Education Resource Pack, full of great learning ideas and an interactive CD. To get your free copy contact us.

We run different events throughout the year, demand is always high so make sure you keep checking the website.

Primary (Key stage 1 and 2)

Our key stage 1 and 2 workshops comprise short video clips, games, discussions and competitions. Each session normally lasts 45 minutes but this can be adjusted to suit your class's needs. They feed directly into areas of the Northern Ireland Curriculum including Personal Development, Mutual Understanding and the World Around Us and link to several cross curricular skills including communication.

After the workshop, we'll continue to provide support; you'll receive our anti-litter education pack and we can help you organise a community cleanup. Our education pack contains lesson plans, syllabus links, printable resources and information to be used alongside our interactive CD.

Captain Cleanup bin To launch our pack, we're giving away a limited number of free playground litter bins. These 'Captain Cleanup' Bins are issued on a first come - first served basis, so sign up for one of our interactive workshops for your school to be in with a chance of receiving one.

If you'd like to book one of our anti-litter workshops, please call us on 028 9032 0202 ext 5422 or 5421 or email catcleansing@belfastcity.gov.uk

Post-primary

We run anti-litter talks and assemblies. Using Quizdom, the students take part using electronic voting handsets. The presentations are interactive, interesting and fun with each lasting 40 to 50 minutes.

Additional support

We want to build an ongoing relationship with your school to help you meet your environmental targets.

We run competitions and events throughout the year for all school age groups. There is always high demand for places so keep checking the 'related links' on this page to make sure that your school gets involved.

We also help to organise cleanups. If your school wants to clean up its surrounding area, we can supply you with the equipment including litter picks, brushes, shovels and bags. We will also collect the rubbish for you. And if your school is keen to keep your litter warriors active, we can give you a free cleanup kit to use for litter patrols.
