Ardenlee Gardens cleanup

October 2011

Litter hero, Sophie Stewart, goes out at least twice a week and picks up the litter in her street. Sophie was appalled with people throwing litter down. Sophie said: "Don't people know that this is disgusting and that animals can hurt themselves or get sick because of litter? It makes our street horrible for everyone."

Fairyknowe's Residents Group cleanup

Wednesday 17 August 2011

Young and old got together to clean up an area of Fairyknowe Park. As well as litter picking and sweeping up broken glass, the group enthusiastically donned their overalls to paint over graffiti with paint supplied by the Northern Ireland Housing Executive (NIHE). The group enjoyed glorious weather as they transformed the neglected area into a litter and graffiti free, safe place for residents.

East Belfast Community Development Agency (EBCDA) cleanup

Friday 17 June 2011

The East Belfast Community Development Agency (EBCDA) recently got a group of volunteers together to tidy up their community garden in the Carew Family Centre on Tamar Street and the surrounding area. It had suffered from litter, overgrown weeds, and generally needed a good tidy up.

The group consisted of 22 people, ranging from local residents, community workers and local business managers. They braved the elements and worked hard throughout the day to tidy the area, gathering 10 bags of rubbish and green waste.

The community garden, women's centre grounds and surrounding residential streets are now free from weeds and litter.

Well done to the volunteers.
