We have launched a series of new tourism initiatives to celebrate our rich musical heritage and to help establish a strong reputation for Belfast as a vibrant capital city with unique and exciting experiences. The initiatives include:

Belfast Music iPhone appBelfast Music iPhone app

We're using the very latest technology to promote Belfast's thriving music scene, by launching the world’s first iPhone app on the subject.

The free Belfast Music iPhone app, developed by our partners Filmtrip, allows local music fans and visitors to find out what’s happening on the Belfast music scene at the moment. It also allows people to explore the city’s rich musical heritage.

You can download the free Belfast Music iPhone app from the iTunes website, or view a teaser video to find out what it has to offer.

Music fans heading out in Belfast have now got the latest gigs and music news at their fingertips with the launch of the new BelfastMusic.org website.

For the first time, potential gig goers will be able to quickly find hundreds of music events across Belfast, from intimate singer-songwriter nights to classical recitals and rock concerts.

It features the latest Belfast music events, news, reviews, audio and video. You can also sign up for regular ebulletins to make sure you don't miss a note.

Belfast Music TourBelfast Music Tour

Date and time: Every Saturday at 2pm until 27 November 2010, and every other Saturday from 4 December - 26 March 2011.
Cost: £8, or £6 for concessions
Venue: Belfast city centre, Ulster Hall and Oh Yeah Centre

The Belfast Music Tour is a bus journey through the heart of a great rock and roll city. From Them and Van Morrison to Snow Patrol, by way of awesome guitar players, punk rock and Hollywood soundtracks.

The tour, on Saturdays at 2pm, begins at the iconic Ulster Hall which has played host to famous figures and is now home to the Ulster Orchestra.

The bus will depart from the Ulster Hall at 2.30pm and you will hear about the founding members of Thin Lizzy and the legend of Pearly Spencer. You'll see the landscape that inspired classic Van Morrison songs and witness venues that have been visited by Led Zeppelin, The Clash and U2.

The tour finishes at the Oh Yeah Music Centre where you will have a chance to check out the Belfast Music Exhibition.

QuitarBelfast Music Exhibition

Date and time: Open Monday - Friday, 12noon - 3pm and Saturdays, 12noon - 5pm.
Cost: Free
Venue: The Oh Yeah Music Centre (15-21 Gordon Street, Cathedral Quarter)

The Belfast Music Exhibition takes you on a unique journey - from Ruby Murray to Snow Patrol, by way of Stiff Little Fingers, Dana and Clodagh Rogers, via The Divine Comedy, Ash and The Undertones.

It also introduces you to Belfast's DJ culture, jazz and showbands, as well as looking fondly at our legacy for heavy rock and our progress through the 1980s.

The memorabilia on display includes platinum discs, badges, vintage stage gear, lyric sheets, film footage, ticket stubs and backstage passes.

There's also a film on the life of Terri Hooley, an array of musical memories from the public and a timeline which follows the chart successes of Northern Ireland acts from 1954 to the present day.
