Traveller Community
We are committed to delivering and supporting services which will improve the quality of life of the Irish Traveller Community across Belfast. We want to work with the community to help Travellers take informed decisions about issues which matter to them.
We have had a long history of working with, and lobbying on behalf of, the Traveller Community. We also provided a range of traveller sites within Belfast from 1990 to 2003, before the Northern Ireland Housing Executive became responsible for Traveller accommodation, including site provision.
Services for Travellers
Our Travellers Liaison Management Service deals with a wide range of issues relating to the Traveller Community within Belfast. We are always reviewing the availability and delivery of council services to the Traveller Community across the city. We also try to encourage other service providers to consider the requirements of the Traveller Community.
Traveller awareness training
The traveller community is one of the most disadvantaged groups within our society. We, in partnership with An Munia Tober, provide ongoing Traveller awareness and anti-racism training to community groups, government bodies and local businesses. The aim of this training is to:
- help improve the quality of life of the Traveller Community
- encourage best practice in delivering services to the Traveller Community.
