Public survey

In February 2009, we sent a survey to Belfast residents, asking you to tell us what you thought about our plans for a new waste treatment facility on the North Foreshore.

Thanks to everyone who took part in the survey.

Almost nine out of ten of you voted to release the land for an Energy from Waste (EFW) plant, while nearly eight of ten respondents voted for a Mechancial Biological Treatment (MBT) facility.

Our councillors then met at a special full council meeting on Monday 22 June 2009 to make a decision about the facility. They decided to release the land to arc 21, an umbrella group made up of 12 Northern Ireland councils, to build a MBT facility only.

Councillors took this decision after hearing a presentation about the findings of our public survey.
