Confronting Hate: Lessons from Holocaust and Genocide Studies

Date: 12 noon - 1.30pm, Thursday 27 January

Venue: online via Zoom

Category: Good Relations

In memory of the Holocaust and subsequent genocides, join Lord Mayor, Councillor Kate Nicholl and Professor James Waller, Cohen Professor of Holocaust and Genocide Studies at Keene State College, New Hampshire, for a virtual talk exploring why the Holocaust matters in today’s deeply divided world.

Professor Waller will draw on his face-to-face interviews with perpetrators of genocide and mass atrocity.   His presentation will explore how ordinary people become capable of committing extraordinary evil.  It will examine how human and civil rights can become eroded and how hate and intergroup conflict can escalate.  Professor Waller will provide insights into the importance of challenging the hate that gives rise to exclusion and division and the importance of promoting and protecting human and civil rights.
