13 Feb 2020
Fresh from the success of Féile 2019 in August last year, the launch of Féile an Phobail’s Spring Festival, Féile an Earraigh, took place today, Thursday 13th February, at James Connolly Visitor Centre on the Falls Road in Belfast.
The annual Spring Festival takes place from 1st to 17th March 2020.
Féile Director Kevin Gamble, speaking at the launch, said. “Each year our Spring Festival, Féile an Earraigh, continues to grow in size, with over 70 events between 1st and 17th March this year.
“We were delighted today that the Mayor of Belfast, Daniel Baker, and the Executive Minister for Communities, Deirdre Hargey, joined us to launch the festival along with actor, director and playwright Dan Gordon and Arts Council Chief Executive Roisin McDonough.
“This year’s Féile an Earraigh delivers a wonderful mix of traditional music, talks, tours, family events, and St Patrick’s Day related arts and cultural events.
“Féile is a powerful advertisement for the incredible, talented and creative community that is west Belfast and this year’s Féile an Earraigh is going to be the biggest yet.
“It is fantastic to see so many community groups, Irish language groups, youth groups and local businesses taking part and making a great effort to keep building on the tremendous success of last year’s Féile.
Mayor of Belfast, Councillor Daniel Baker, took part in today’s launch event and commented, “I am delighted to be here at the launch of the Féile an Earraigh Festival and look forward to enjoying a fantastic programme of activities in March. From documentaries to musical performances and culinary delights to the Craic 10k run, there’s truly something for everyone among the 70 plus events organised this spring.
“It’s great to see so many community groups coming together to take part in Féile an Earraigh and I look forward to enjoying the many events on offer.”
Executive Minister for Communities Deirdre Hargey, who also spoke at the launch event, said, “I am delighted to be able to take this opportunity to support and promote this wonderful festival. The Féile an Earraigh presents an excellent opportunity to showcase the wealth of talent that we have to offer, whilst celebrating our unique social and cultural heritage, and enhancing cultural expression. Congratulations to all involved.”
