Belfast Entries Project

  • Belfast Entries Project

Belfast’s entries are an important part of our city centre built environment. They hold fascinating, untold stories of past and present, waiting to be rediscovered and brought to life. The entries are also key connections enhancing the accessibility of the city centre.

    Belfast entries project

  • Improvements to city centre entries

Phase one of our Belfast Entries project focused on improving seven entries in the city:

    • Castle Arcade
    • Cole’s Alley
    • Crown Entry
    • Joy’s Entry
    • Pottinger’s Entry
    • Wilson’s Court
    • Winecellar Entry

The project transformed these entries into vibrant places that are safe, welcoming, playful and imaginative. It also helped to improve wayfinding through the city centre, while promoting the heritage and culture of the entries themselves.

Along with general repair works and repainting, creative consultancies Daisy Chain Inc, Form Native and Urban Scale Interventions helped us to deliver enhanced lighting and bespoke artwork.

It’s great to see residents and visitors exploring the entries and bringing them to life again. The project won the Public – Private Partnership category at the all-Ireland Urban Land Institute and CBRE Excellence in Placemaking Awards 2021.

We’ve now started design work on four more entries as part of phase two of the programme:

    • College Street Mews
    • High Street Entry
    • Patterson’s Place
    • Sugarhouse Entry

and will keep you updated on progress on this page and on our social media.
