Ballymacarrett Walkway

  • Improvements to the walkway

The stretch of walkway runs from Connswater Street at CS Lewis Square to Dee Street. During development work, the walkway will be partially accessible, with diversions through Severn Street for cyclists and pedestrians. We will display clear signage at the site and update this web page during the project.

The aim of this work is to create a welcoming, safe and attractive linear park for the local community and to improve accessibility for cyclists and walkers. Key improvements include:

    • new planting and landscaping
    • new street furniture
    • enhanced lighting, and
    • upgrading and resurfacing the cycle and pedestrian paths

We’re delivering the project in partnership with the Department for Infrastructure, the Urban Villages Initiative and Eastside Partnership as part of wider improvements in the east of the city. This work includes regeneration along key stretches of the Comber Greenway from Bloomfield Walkway to the Titanic railway halt, helping to improve open spaces and the sustainable travel infrastructure.

  • Current status

Following a pause in construction, work has resumed on site. In line with industry health and safety guidance, additional hygiene and social distancing measures are in place to keep workers and the public safe during the Covid-19 pandemic.

A section on Dee Street remains closed off. There are clear diversions in place. The remainder of the walkway is open.

For queries about the construction, you can email roadworks@mcqcos.com or pmu@belfastcity.gov.uk
