Universal Credit

Universal Credit is a monthly payment (replacing six other benefits) to help those on low income with living costs.

We’re encouraging people who are struggling to understand the Universal Credit system to contact their local advice centre for guidance.

We support these centres, which provide free, confidential and independent advice.

Before making your Universal Credit claim, you can get a full benefit check from your local advice centre. This allows them to assess how your household could be affected and if you can avail of extra support or claim additional benefits.

How to apply

New social security claimants must apply for Universal Credit as it has been fully rolled out across Northern Ireland.
