  • Resident status

A Belfast resident is a person who permanently resided in the Belfast City Council area at the time of their death.

Our policy is that former Belfast residents who have moved out of Belfast due to ill-health into care, whether a hospital, nursing or residential home or care by a relative or friend within a ten year period prior to their death, may qualify for the Belfast resident rate.

Original proof of residency documentation, dated within the last 10 years may include:

    • Certified copy of the death certificate clarifying usual address of the deceased at time of death
    • A letter from the deceased’s GP or nursing or residential manager stating the deceased’s previous home address and confirming that nursing care was required.
    • Driver’s licence
    • Utility bill

The non-Resident fee will be charged where applicants are unable to provide proof of residency at the time of making the application for burial or cremation.
