Section 2
Understanding the impact of the policy, strategy, plan or public service
2A. Is the policy, strategy, plan or public service likely to impact on people in rural areas?
Yes
2B. Please explain how the policy, strategy, plan or public service is likely to impact on people in rural areas.
The work undertaken as part of this programme aims to deliver positive outcomes for residents across Belfast. The 10-year Strategy will focus on improving pitches and sporting assets throughout the North, South, East and West of the city. The beneficiaries of the Strategy will include residents from both urban and rural areas of Belfast.
Belfast has a rural population of approximately 1,484 residents living in the small settlements of Edenderry, Hannahstown and Loughview. These communities will be able to benefit from improvements arising from the implementation of the Strategy.
In relation to the areas identified above, a number of pitches and outdoor sports facilities are located nearby. For example, Henry Jones Playing Fields is situated in close proximity to Loughview. As the 10-year Strategy develops, all Council-owned sporting assets, including those serving these communities, will be considered as part of the review and investment planning process. We will also work alongside our partners to identify opportunities for investment and improvement in facilities under their ownership, supporting collaboration and maximising opportunities for joint working.
2C. If the policy, strategy, plan or public service is likely to impact on people in rural areas differently from people in urban areas, please explain how it is likely to impact on people in rural areas differently.
The majority of our pitches are situated in urban areas of Belfast, therefore it is likely that while the strategy can benefit everyone, it may be more concentrated in urban areas.
2D. Please indicate which of the following rural policy areas the policy, strategy, plan or public service is likely to primarily impact on.
- Deprivation in rural areas
- Rural crime or community safety
- Rural development
2E. Please explain why the policy, strategy, plan or public service is not likely to impact on people in rural areas.
No information.
