Divis Community Centre Kindness, Wellness and Gratitude Programme 2019

Join us for an exciting programme of events focused on promoting kindness, wellness and gratitude. The programme offers something for everyone including film screenings, yoga, mindfulness, and workshops. Even better, by attending one of the events you'll be supporting the local community, as the entrance 'fee' is a donation of food which will go straight to a local food bank.

Event Schedule

Monday 19 August

Parent and Toddler Yoga

  • 10am - 10.30am
  • Delivered by Clan Mor Sure start in Divis Community Centre

Inside Out film (U)* 

  • 11am - 12.50pm
  • All welcome. Explores emotions as little characters inside our heads! Helps to understand our moods and the moods of others

Wonder film (PG)* 

  • 6.30pm - 8.40pm
  • This heart-warming drama explores the importance of kindness, empathy, tolerance and acceptance. It also explores themes of stereotypes, bullying and overcoming fear. This is for general viewing but some scenes may be unsuitable for children under 8 years

* Please note, all children and young people must be accompanied by a parent, guardian or youth leader.

Tuesday 20 August

Happiness, Positivity and Gratitude workshop: reducing anxiety for adults.

  • 11am - 12.30pm
  • Delivered by Terence Ferris Kindness Act group in Divis CC

A fun arts and crafts activity for adults & teenagers* 

  • 1.30pm - 3pm
  • Making recyclable gift bags to donate to NI Hospice charity shop
  • Also enjoy making your own recycled card to take home!

*Please note, all children and young people must be accompanied by a parent, guardian or youth leader.

Wednesday 21 August

Tai Chi - Gentle Mindful movement for adults

  • 11am – 12.30pm
  • Delivered through the HEART Project delivered in Divis CC

Kids Yoga*

  • 6.30pm - 7.30pm
  • For 8-12 year olds. Limited spaces. Parents and guardians - enjoy a cuppa while you wait!

*Please note, all children and young people must be accompanied by a parent, guardian or youth leader.

Thursday 22 August

Yoga and breathing exercises for adults

  • 11am – 12 noon
  • With a focus on loving kindness and calming the mind!

Up Film (PG)*

  • 2pm - 3.40pm
  • Heart-warming and uplifting animated film with themes of loss, empathy and intergenerational friendship
  • General viewing but some scenes may be unsuitable for children under eight years

*Please note, all children and young people must be accompanied by a parent, guardian or youth leader.

Friday 23 August

Learn to Meditate! for adults

  • 11.30am – 12.30pm
  • Low intensity meditation session with mindful movement and a focus on gratitude and breath awareness

Wednesday 28 August 

Gentle chair Yoga, mindful movement and breathing exercises for adults

  • 11am - 12 noon
  • Low impact session with a focus on letting go of tension - suitable for people with limited mobility

Red Cross workshop for young people aged 12-18 years*

  • 6.30pm - 7.30pm
  • Exploring stigma, respect, empathy and understanding for people from all backgrounds

*Please note, all children and young people must be accompanied by a youth leader, parent or guardian.

Thursday 29 August

Conversation café and information session for adults

  • 11am – 1pm
  • There will be different themes to chat about – Taking Five Steps to Wellbeing through Connecting, Learning, Keeping Active, Taking Notice & Giving

Friday 30 August

Red Cross workshop for adults

  • 11am - 12 noon
  • Exploring stigma, respect, empathy and understanding for people from all backgrounds

Mindfulness for adults

  • 1.30pm – 2.30pm
  • Low intensity session focusing on our senses, mindful movement and our amazing breath!

Monday 2 September

Laughter session for adults

  • 11am – 12 noon
  • This session is a bit quirky! Laughter can be a holistic workout for mind and body and can help increase our sense of wellbeing. Come along for a playful light-hearted giggle!

Tuesday 3 September

Armchair aerobics for adults

  • 11am - 12 noon
  • Delivered by the HEART Project in the Maureen Sheehan Healthy Living Centre at 106 Albert Street, BT12 4HL

Thursday 5 September

Mindfulness and Children - Information workshop for adults

  • 10am – 12 noon
  • Exploring mindfulness approaches when working with children

  • Unless stated otherwise, all activities are delivered in Divis Community Centre, Ardmoulin Place, Belfast, BT12 4RT. Light refreshments available. Programme is subject change

  • Entrance fees per person for ALL activities in Divis Community Centre is by donation of food items for the local Food Bank. Items that would be particularly welcome are tins of vegetables such as peas, carrots and beans, noodles, pasta, rice, jars of coffee and cook-in sauces.  Shampoo and body wash are also welcome.
