St Patrick’s Day Creative Development Award 2021

A new Creative Development Award programme is now open, which will help us review our current St Patrick's Day city event.

Throughout the development of our cultural strategy, A City Imagining 2020-2030, and with our ongoing approach to culture in Belfast, we’ve demonstrated the richness of our cultural offer and the creative potential of our city. As part of the city's recovery and strategic plans, we want our programmes to help build the capacity of our cultural sector while delivering on the ambitions of the cultural strategy. This will help us to build back better and more sustainably. Our events are key to our cultural portfolio and can challenge and articulate a city’s diverse identity and personality. Public engagement must underpin our city’s new approach to developing events and festivals.

The first step in this journey is developing a new approach to St Patrick’s day celebrations in the city from 2022 onwards. Applications are open now for up to four Creative Development Awards. Each award will be up to £15,000, with the purpose of researching, developing and exploring a new model for celebrating St Patrick’s Day in Belfast. The outcome will be four full feasibility reports on how the new proposals could be realised as pilots as part of 2022 St Patrick’s Day programme.

We will select those ideas that will progress from feasibility to pilot stage for 2022. Following the delivery of pilots in March 2022, we’ll complete an evaluation process with the potential to select one or more as the new delivery model for St Patrick’s Day in Belfast from 2023 onwards.

For more information on this Creative Development Award, please email culture@belfastcity.gov.uk for an application pack. The deadline for applications is Monday 20 September at 4pm.
