Visitor accessibility & facilities

Belfast Castle prides itself in ensuring accessibility for all visitors and guests. We are aware that we must continue to make our space accessible and where possible, make reasonable adjustments to make everyone feel comfortable and welcome, whether visiting the castle for the day, attending a public or private event or enjoying the scenery in our gardens and walkways.

When you arrive at our main entrance, automatic doors will open. These facilities are available at the castle:

  • We have a ground level public lift to take visitors to the basement level to our visitor centre, coffee shop and gardens or the first floor to access our function rooms and bridal suite.
  • We are fully wheelchair accessible inside the castle.
  • We have consistent signage to help our visitors navigate their way around the venue.
  • The Cavehill Visitor Centre is self-guided and wheelchair friendly.
  • Accessible toilets are available on both the basement and ground floor levels and include a mother baby changing facility.
  • Car parking on site is free, the surface type is open air.
  • We have Blue Badge and mother and baby parking bays on site. You don't need to book this parking.

Autism awareness

We want to create a welcoming environment by demonstrating kindness, patience and respect for people with a learning disability and or autism. We want them to feel empowered and understood. Providing appropriate and individualised customer service, communication and staff training is a key goal for us.

Our staff recently attended Autism Awareness Training and we are currently working towards becoming an Autism Impact Champion. This award will accredit our venue as an autism-accessible and welcoming environment for everyone.

JAM Card (Just a minute) accreditation

At Belfast Castle we pride ourselves in offering quality customer care based on the needs of those that visit us. As a JAM Card© accredited venue, our staff are now on hand to support, welcome and provide advice to those card users who need it. We are aware that not all disabilities are visible, staff are now trained to communicate with visitors and provide that platform of privacy and a little extra time if they need it.

Dogs

Dogs (except registered assistance dogs) are not allowed inside Belfast Castle, the castle gardens, the adventure playground or inside our coffee shop.

Dogs on leads are allowed in the outdoor seated area at our coffee shop. Water bowls are available.

Breastfeeding

We welcome breastfeeding in Belfast Castle.
