The default definition of “rural” used in Northern Ireland is those settlements with populations of less than 5,000, together with the open countryside.
The rural population of Belfast (2016 mid-year population estimates, NISRA) is approximately 1,484, including the small settlements of Edenderry, Hannahstown and Loughview.
The Disability Action Plan applies across the entire area of Belfast City Council and aims to address the inequalities experienced by disabled people.
Therefore, this policy will have a positive impact on people throughout the council area, including the rural areas.
