Sustainability initiatives that suppliers can choose to deliver as part of their bid.

Ethical initiatives

  • Design and implement a new ethical procurement policy and provision of associated training for employees.
  • Annual supply chain audit and mapping exercise (for first tier suppliers involved with contract delivery).
  • Use of a social enterprise (SE) in the supply chain (related to contract delivery).
  • Business Development and Knowledge Sharing Initiatives to support a Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise (VCSE) organisation.
  • Sign up to Belfast Business Promise as a Supporter and progress to Member during the contract period (Belfast-only suppliers).

Social value

  • 104 employment weeks Full Time Equivalent (FTE) created for apprenticeships (minimum two-year apprenticeship programme).
  • 52 employment weeks (FTE) created for Inclusive Growth (IG) Target Groups.
  • 12 employment weeks (FTE) created for Trainees (paid).
  • 40 employment weeks (FTE) created for third level students' placements (paid).
  • Employability or skills initiatives to support Inclusive Growth Target Groups and enhance employability of young people.
  • Action plan for in-work IG Target Groups employees to cover progression, skills development and educational attainment.
  • Design and implementation of a new Human Resource (HR) equality, diversity and inclusion policy and provision of associated training for employees.
  • Design and implementation of new HR policies, procedures and employee contractual terms for the development, health and wellbeing of employees.
  • Initiatives to improve good relations between people from different religious, political, racial and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Initiatives to increase participation in sports-related activities; or arts-related activities.
  • Initiatives to reduce the stigma of mental illness and increase awareness of mental health and wellbeing issues among employees, suppliers, customers and communities.
  • Initiatives to support our community projects.
  • Local initiatives to reduce poverty and inequality in the area where the contract is delivered.

Environmental

  • Annual Scope 1 and 2 emissions data reporting using our reporting tool.
  • Design and publish a contract relevant carbon reduction plan delivering a year-on-year carbon reduction over the contract period.
  • Attain a new Environmental Management System (EMS) accreditation during the contract period such as ISO14001 or equivalent.
  • Support an initiative to enhance natural resources and biodiversity in a Belfast City Council area.
  • Action plan to support the circular economy such as waste recycling, upcycling plan or donating unused equipment or items to local VCSE sector.
  • Circular economy training for staff working on the contract.
  • Waste management training initiatives for communities, VCSEs or educational establishments.
  • Design and implementation of a new Single Use Plastics (SUP) policy and provision of associated training for employees.
  • Supply chain audit and mapping exercise (for first tier suppliers involved with contract delivery) to identify the use of SUP and an associated action plan to reduce SUP usage in operations.
  • Supply chain resilience and capacity action plan.
