Urban Villages

Urban Villages Initiative

Overseen by the Executive Office (TEO), the Urban Villages Initiative  is designed to improve good relations outcomes and develop thriving places where there has been a history of deprivation and community tension.

We are working in partnership with Urban Villages to improve our existing parks and to create new parks, play parks and open spaces across Belfast.

There are five Urban Village areas designated by Northern Ireland Executive, one of which is in Derry~Londonderry. The remaining four are in Belfast:

• Ardoyne and Greater Ballysillan, north Belfast
• Colin, west Belfast
• EastSide, east Belfast
• Sandy Row, Donegall Pass and the Markets areas, south Belfast

Key projects currently underway include:

• development plans for Ballysillan Playing Fields
• development plans for Marrowbone Millennium Park
