An online book of condolence in memory of George Floyd has been opened by the Lord Mayor of Belfast today.

Alderman Frank McCoubrey said: “The death of George Floyd has been felt deeply, not just by his fellow Americans, but by people across the globe who have united to show their support for the Black Lives Matter movement.

“There is no place in society for those who would treat a person differently because of the colour of their skin. At a time when communities are uniting in the face of a global pandemic, there has never been more need for us to show care and compassion towards our neighbours and work together.

“It is my hope that the worldwide outpouring of support there has been in the wake of Mr Floyd’s death will bring some comfort to his family and community, and send a strong message that people will not tolerate racism, and will keep making their voices heard.”
