Belfast man sentenced after dog attack on a child

A Belfast man has been sentenced at Belfast Magistrates Court today, Tuesday 8 September 2026, following his conviction for an offence involving a dog attacking a child.

Belfast City Council took the prosecution against Mark Joseph Anderson of Abbeydale Crescent, Belfast. The prosecution was taken after reports that Mr Anderson’s Staffordshire Bull Terrier type dog had attacked and injured a 5-year-old boy causing injuries to his leg.

The attack took place in the street after the dog had escaped from premises at Abbeydale Crescent on 1 May 2026. Mr Anderson pleaded guilty and was given a sentence of 2 months in custody, suspended for 12 months and ordered to pay £133 legal and court costs.
