The Autism and Sports Coaching course provides sports coaches and physical activity leaders with an introduction to planning and delivering sessions that are inclusive of people with Autism. The course will provide a combination of theoretical and practical advice on suitable activities and approaches to fully include participants with Autism in your given sport.

An engaging workshop from Sports Medicine NI with three leaders in their fields, Dr Alan Brankin,  Dr Sharon Madigan and Richard Moore will guide you through a practical course exploring the role of Physical Performance, Strength and Conditioning and Nutrition in injury prevention and Psychological Aspects of Injury Prevention.

To equip aspiring cycle coaches with the knowledge, skills, and practical techniques needed to support children and young people in developing safe, confident, and enjoyable cycling habits.
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

• understand the fundamentals of teaching cycling to beginners and improvers.
• apply age-appropriate coaching methods for children and young people.
• foster confidence, resilience, and independence in new riders.
• ensure safety through correct use of equipment, environment checks, and risk awareness.
• plan and deliver engaging, structured cycling sessions.

​​​​​​The workshop aims to promote and facilitate a consistent understanding of the all-island definition for physical literacy. It does so by providing a personal and professional development opportunity for those interested in developing their own physical literacy and helping others develop their physical literacy throughout the life course.

Understanding Physical Literacy has been developed by Sport Ireland and Sport Northern Ireland in partnership with Dr Melanie McKee from Stranmillis University College following the creation of the All-Island Physical Literacy Consensus Statement in 2022.

This workshop aims to raise awareness of child safeguarding issues in sport and introduces participants to what is good practice for children’s sport and how to report any concern. This workshop is important for all adults involved in children’s sport, but is essential for Coaches, Leaders, Administrators, and Officials. The workshop has mandatory pre-learning which must be undertaken before attending the workshop.

This specially designed course provides the skills and knowledge needed to provide both emergency adult and paediatric first aid, perfect for schools, sports clubs or other childcare settings. The number of training days required to achieve both qualifications has been minimised and streamlined to avoid the duplication of topics associated with attending both the Emergency First Aid at Work and Emergency Paediatric First Aid courses separately. What’s more, this course is formed from two regulated qualifications, which employers can book for their employees and be assured that they have fulfilled their legal responsibilities for providing quality first aid training, without having to undertake any lengthy due diligence checks.

An engaging workshop from Sports Medicine NI, Dr Alan Brankin and Dr Sharon Madigan will focus on female performance and participation in sport. Investigating the factors that affect training, injury and recovery including menstrual cycle trainability, menopause and RED-S (Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport) with helpful tips for progression.

The session will cover awareness around the issues of ending violence against women and girls which can be barriers to women’s participation in sport.

To tackle Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) in sport, coaches can use their influential position to create a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all participants. By understanding the issue and implementing concrete strategies, coaches can become effective allies in prevention and intervention.

This session will set the context of VAWG in Northern Ireland, explore issues of coercive control and other forms of abuse, so coaches can name it and then tackle it. Look at importance of coordination and collaboration across all sports codes to establish a common understanding and approaches to tackle the issues. It will look at pathways to support and encourage our sports coaches and volunteers to be able to speak up and respond with zero tolerance to all forms of abuse.
