Alleygates and alleyways

  • Alleygates in Belfast

Alleygates help to reduce antisocial behaviour, burglaries and fear of crime in areas of Belfast where they have been installed. As well as making neighbourhoods feel safer, they're also helping to build a cleaner environment.

You can collect alleygate keys from our reception at Cecil Ward Building, 4-10 Linenhall Street, Belfast, BT2 8BP. The building is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 4pm.

You need to bring two forms of ID with you:

    1. one photographic ID
    2. one proof of address document, dated within the last three months.

We can accept digital proof of address, including a mortgage certificate, title deed, phone, landline or rates bill. We will also accept a certified solicitor’s letter.

For more information about alleygates, call 028 9027 0469 or email [email protected].

  • Alleyway Transformation pilot programme

We ran an online expression of interest exercise for residents, businesses, and community groups to take part in our pilot programme. Our expression of interest exercise is now closed.

Alleyway Transformation pilot programme runs until December 2026.

    We’ll provide support to help:

    • green grey spaces with plants
    • transform and clean cluttered spaces
    • create social space
    • organise community events and skills workshops, and
    • improve safety by adding lighting.
