Facilities in the zoo

Our cafés

Ability Café

The Ability Café operates two catering venues in the zoo providing a range of hot and cold food, drinks and snacks. Debit and credit card facilities are available in both venues. The Ability Cafes are operated by the zoo’s catering partner, USEL.

The Lion's Den Café

The Lion’s Den café is located near the zoo’s Visitor Centre and offers an extensive menu of sit-down and takeaway meals along with light snacks. Indoor and outdoor seating is available.

The Lion’s Den is closed over winter (October to March). Refreshments are available during selected dates at the Treetop Tearooms.

The Treetop Tearooms

This is located at the very top of the zoo, offering panoramic views across Belfast Lough, the Belfast Hills and of some of the zoo residents including our Malayan sun bears. A limited hot menu and light snacks are available for takeaway only.

If you have any specific dietary or allergy requirements, please contact us by phoning 028 9077 6277 or by emailing prior to your visit.

The Treetop Tearoom is open from Friday to Tuesday during winter (October to March).

Confectionary vending is available in the Visitor Centre.

Picnic tables are located throughout the zoo for visitors, offering the perfect setting to enjoy takeaway options from the zoo’s cafes. Visitors are permitted to bring their own food into the zoo. For this reason we cannot guarantee an allergen-free environment. Barbeques are strictly not permitted in the zoo.

We kindly ask that all visitors place their rubbish in the bins provided around the zoo site, and to not feed the animals.

Adventurers’ Learning Centre (play park)

This exciting large play park allows visitors to cross crocodile creek, tunnel through meerkat mound or slither to snake island amongst many other fun activities. Picnic benches are located in and near the play park, offering an ideal area for families to rest and play. The play park is open during zoo opening hours.

Zoovenir shop

You’ll find a wide variety of animal themed gifts and souvenirs for you, friends and family, to suit all budgets. The Zoovenir Shop is open during zoo opening hours. Debit and credit card facilities are available.
