St. Patrick’s Day – Traffic Advisory Notice

Traffic restrictions and diversions will operate in Belfast city centre as the annual St Patrick’s Day Carnival and Concert takes place this Friday, 17 March.

Motorists can expect disruption along the carnival procession route with rolling diversions from 11.40am through to 1pm. Diversions will also be in place during this time on roads and streets that intersect with the route.

The carnival procession, featuring participants from all corners of Belfast, will leave the City Hall at 12noon. It will make its way into Donegall Square North, then along Donegall Place and Royal Avenue, turning right onto Donegall Street, right onto Waring Street, left onto Bridge Street, left again onto High Street, crossing Victoria Street and entering Custom House Square at approximately 12.50pm.

Extreme caution should be exercised when driving in and around the Custom House Square, Queen’s Square and Victoria Street areas due to the large volume of pedestrians attending the free concert featuring Fleur, Reggie ‘n’ Bollie and Stooshe from 12.45pm-3pm.

On street parking on Donegall Street will be suspended from 9pm on Thursday 16 March until after 1pm on 17 March to allow for the parade to progress.

Translink Metro will operate a normal service throughout the day. Some diversionary pick up and drop off points may occur during 11am-1pm. Please see www.translink.co.uk and the display screens at any affected bus stops for updated information.

Drivers should also be aware that the SPAR Craic 10K event will see more than 1,000 runners leaving Belfast City Hall at 9am on St Patrick’s Day, Friday 17 March, taking in both sides of the River Lagan before finishing on the Titanic Slipways. A Traffic Management System and signage will be in place and motorists should follow directions of Police, any signage and exercise caution along the route.

Delays or diversions can be expected at the following times and places:

Belfast City Hall / Wellington Place/ Chichester Street 08:15-10:00
Divis Street/ Falls Road / Grosvenor Road 09:00- 09:40
Countrybound traffic on Divis Street will experience delays until approximately 09:30
Access to Divis Street from Westlink will be restricted during this time.
Queen’s Road Area Belfast Harbour Estate 0915- 1015

From 0845-0950 there will be no through traffic in the Victoria Street/ Dunbar Link area and diversions will be in place.
