Friendly words warm the heart

21 Dec 2017
Belfast Lord Mayor, Councillor Nuala McAllister, has called for everyone to look out for their neighbours, especially the elderly, over Christmas and New Year.

As she sent a festive message to the people of Belfast for a joyous peaceful Christmas and Happy New Year she asked them to reach out to those around them.

“Christmas should be a joyous time but not everyone will share that experience. I would ask that you all look out for your neighbours, particularly those older neighbours who might need a friendly voice or helping hand during this period” the Lord Mayor said.

“It is a busy time but it is important that as we celebrate with family and friends we reach out to others, particularly those who through no fault of their own may be alone at this time.

“Have a happy, peaceful Christmas, and share the joy with those around you. During 2017 I have had the opportunity to meeting many people across the city who have contributed to its reputation as a warm, welcoming, friendly place.

“Let’s share that among ourselves as well as we move into 2018,” said Councillor McAllister.

“2017 had ups and downs but I, and everyone in Belfast City Council, are looking forward to an exciting 2018 and the challenges it may bring. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all.”
