Lord Mayor joins cast of 'Zoo' at premiere in Belfast

21 Jun 2018

Lord Mayor Deirdre Hargey was joined by the cast of ‘Zoo’ at its gala premiere in Belfast this week.

Written and directed by Belfast-born Colin McIvor, the film was inspired by Belfast Zoo's 'elephant angel',  Denise Weston Austin, during the Belfast Blitz and was filmed at various locations in the city including the Zoo and Belfast Castle.

'Zoo' tells the story of baby elephant Buster who was rescued from Belfast Zoo during the air raid bombings of 1941 by 12-year-old Tom and his friends.

Speaking ahead of its premiere at Movie House on Tuesday evening, Colin McIvor said: “The screenplay has developed into a brave, enchanting and important film and one that I am very proud to have made. I am so pleased that we will open the film here in Belfast, where the story was borne, and I hope that local audiences will fall in love with the story of Buster and his friends.”

The film will open in cinemas across NI on Friday 29 June and stars Penelope Wilton, Art Parkinson and Toby Jones.
