Starling Spectacle on view for free

24 November 2008

Everyone is invited to an aerial acrobatic show for free on Saturday afternoon (29 November).

It is a chance to watch up to 30,000 participants fly wingtip to wingtip with incredible precision right in the heart of Belfast city centre.

Belfast City Council has organised a `Starling Watch` event at 3.30pm, meeting at the Lagan walkway at the Albert Bridge (side closet to Central Station).

Organiser, Orla Maguire, said: “We want people to take time out and watch one of the most impressive wildlife spectacles in Belfast.

“Guides from Belfast City Council will be on hand to point out the wildlife of the River Lagan, and to lead a short walk, where the climax of the event will be provided by the thousands of starlings that congregate here to roost overnight.

“It is a fabulous sight that few people notice on a daily basis, but it is well worth taking the time out to enjoy it. We hope to see lots of people there on Saturday afternoon.”
