Large boost for North Belfast Harriers

1 December 2011

North Belfast Harriers has received a Large Support for Sport Grant of £5,000 to provide athletics coaching to schoolchildren.

The Outreach Programme will provide the opportunity for children and their parents to train with elite athletes as well as working with physios and nutritionists.

The group is linking with ARTEMIS sport which identifies suitable public facilities for community use and develops their potential.

Boys Model School is one of those public facilities and the NB Harriers will be running parent sessions alongside those for children at the school.

Sports Development Officer, Claire Moraghan said: “This is a very innovative concept, providing a pathway to competitive athletics if the children want to take it.

“The North Belfast Harriers have been working hard on developing partnership to boost athletics across the city and have established a very successful Park Run at the Waterworks Park each weekend.

“This grant allows them to develop work among the local community even further.”

Twelve clubs in total across the city received £5,000 and the Large Grants scheme will reopen in April 2012
