New single pays tribute to `The Conjuror`

5 June 2007

The legendary George Best has yet again been immortalised in song.

Airspace – a band drawing together musicians from both sides of the Atlantic – release a single called `The Conjuror` this weekend.

A portion of the proceeds from the sales of `The Conjuror` will go to the George Best Memorial Trust and the George Best Foundation.

With two of the musicians, the lyricists and others involved in the project from Belfast, the song is a passionate tribute to the late, great `Belfast Boy`.

Airspace are made up of Jimmy Brown and Alyn Mearns, both originally from Belfast and now based in North Carolina, together with Americans John Coogan and Alex Watson.

The lyrics are co-written by Mearns and renowned Belfast poet, Adrian Rice, while the dreamlike image of George Best chosen for the CD cover comes from the hand of celebrated Belfast artist, Paul Wilson.

The single was recorded in Memphis and co-produced by the band and John Hampton, known for his work with REM and The White Stripes.

`The Conjuror` has the full endorsement of the Best family.

“I give my wholehearted support to this wonderful tribute to my brother,” said Barbara Best McNarry.

`The Conjuror` will be on sale from HMV in Belfast from Saturday 9 June.

Further information on Airspace is available at their website. www.myspace.com/airspacemusic.
