A landlord has been fined £1000 for not providing adequate smoke and heat alarms in privately rented accommodation in Belfast.

Mr Philip McGrenaghan was also ordered to pay £132 costs at Belfast Magistrates Court.

The prosecution was brought by Belfast City Council after it came to their attention that the property was non-compliant with applicable legislation.

If you're a private landlord, it's your responsibility to ensure there are smoke, heat and carbon monoxide alarms in your rented properties. Landlords should be aware of the rights of tenants and can find information on the Council's Property Inspections page.
